Arriving in Ecuador

June 16 – We left early from Asheville with an all day flight to Guayaquil.  We stayed at Casa de Romero for two nights.  It was pretty hot, but we still enjoyed Malecon – a waterfront park with lots of stuff for the kids to do including an IMAX theater that proved a great respite from the heat.  We walked up 444 steps in Santa Ana to the top of a hill with beautiful views of the city.    Cuqui, a sister of some friends we had met in Asheville who are from Guayaquil, took us for some yogurt and pan de yucca (yummy and gluten free).  We toured the TV station where she works seeing all of the inside tricks of the trade and meeting the stars.  We had fun watching part of the filming of Ecuador’s version of “Dancing with the Stars.”
